How sculpture had to give way for an algae
Marcus Rohrer was born in Switzerland in 1950. At the age of 21 he immigrated to the Netherlands to study ceramics and sculpting at various academies of art. In addition to creative work in his studio, he always had a great interest in healthy nutrition and natural healing. When searching for the ideal form of nutrition, he came across Spirulina in 1981. Then it was an almost unknown algae.
He was so impressed with the enormous potential of the minuscule algae that he decided to give up sculpting. Instead he founded a company from his Tilburg studio and began to import Spirulina - in his eyes "one of nature’s most impressive works of art".
Now, 25 years later, the small business has grown into an internationally operating company. Spirulina International bv is based in Gorinchem, the Netherlands.
